Statistical Software Packages

The purpose of this page is to make users aware of the latest versions and updates to statistical software that is commonly used at UCLA. A short list of free statistical software is provided at the end of this page. For the latest updates for those programs, please visit the link provided.

Amos
- The current version is Amos 18.
- For more information regarding Amos, please see http://www.spss.com/amos/ .
- Amos is an SPSS product; however, it is not part of the SPSS "bundle" that can be purchased from Software Central. (The SPSS "bundle" includes SPSS 18 and Sample Power 2.)
- Amos 18 is included in the SPSS Grad Pack (along with SPSS 18) that students can purchase from the computer store (in the bookstore in Ackerman Union).
- The license for the Grad Pack is good for 4 years.
Egret
- Egret can be purchased from http://www.cytel.com/Products/Egret/default.asp .

EQS
- The current version is EQS 6.1.
- EQS can be purchased directly from Multivariate Software at http://www.mvsoft.com/ .
- Mac and UNIX versions are available.
EViews
- The current version is 6.
- EViews can be purchased directly from Quantitative Micro Software at http://www.eviews.com/index.html .
- A patch is available at http://www.eviews.com/download/download.html .
HLM
- The current version is HLM 6.08 (September, 2009).
- HLM can be purchased directly from SSI (Scientific Software International) at http://www.ssicentral.com/ .

JMP
- The current version is JMP 8.0.1 for Windows. For Mac, the latest version is JMP 7.
- Annual licenses for JMP can be purchased from Software Central . These licenses are good from April 15, 2008 to April 14, 2009.
LatentGold
- The current version is LatentGold 4.5.
- LatentGold can be purchased directly from Statistical Innovations at http://www.statisticalinnovations.com/products/latentgold_v4.html .

Lisrel 8.8
- The current version is Lisrel 8.8.

- The current version is LogXact 8.

Minitab
- The current version is Minitab 15.1.3.

- A 30 day free trial version can be downloaded from http://www.minitab.com/en-US/products/minitab/free-trial.aspx .
MLwiN
- The current version is MLwiN 2.10.
- MLwiN can be obtained from statistical consulting.

Mplus
- The current version is Mplus 5.21. Updates can be obtained from the Mplus website at http://www.statmodel.com/support/index.shtml .
- Mplus can be purchased directly from Mplus at www.statmodel.com . There is a student discount, but no academic discount for UCLA faculty and/or staff.
- The documentation is online in .pdf format at http://www.statmodel.com/ugexcerpts.shtml .

PASS
- The current version is PASS 2008.
- PASS can be purchased directly from NCSS at http://www.ncss.com/index.htm .
- A patch for PASS 2005 is available at http://www.ncss.com/download.html .
Rats
- The current version is 7.2.
- Versions are available for Windows, Mac, UNIX and Linux.
- Rats can be purchased from Estima at http://www.estima.com/orders.shtml .

Sample Power
- The current version is Sample Power 2.0.
- For more information on Sample Power, please see http://www.spss.com/samplepower/ .
- An annual license for SPSS Sample Power is included with the purchase of an SPSS license from Software Central . These licenses are good from July 1, 2008 to June 30, 2009.
- If you are going to install Sample Power onto a Windows Vista machine, you will need to download the patch from the SPSS support site ( http://support.spss.com ).
SAS
- The current version is SAS 9.2.
- For more information on SAS, please see www.sas.com .
- Annual licenses for SAS can be purchased from Software Central . These licenses are good from July 1, 2008 to June 30, 2009.
- Service Pack 4 is the latest service pack for SAS 9.1.3 (these service packs are different from the service packs for the Windows operating systems). These should be installed to fix many bugs in SAS 9.1. The service packs can be obtained from Statistical Consulting or downloaded from http://ftp.sas.com/techsup/download/hotfix/hotfix.html .
- UNIX version of SAS 9.1.3. There is no current version of SAS for the Mac.

- The SAS documentation for version 9.1 can be found online at http://support.sas.com/onlinedoc/913/docMainpage.jsp .
- Note that other procedures, such as proc glimmix and proc quantreg, can be downloaded from http://www.sas.com/apps/demosdownloads/setupcat.jsp;jsessionid=E6A0506EBCEE8112BAE4A750F9BF32B9.tomcat2?cat=SAS%2FSTAT+Software for version 9.1.3. These and other new procedures are included in version 9.2.

Snap
- The current version is Snap 10.
- Snap can be purchased from Snap at http://www.snapsurveys.com/ .

Solas
- The current version is Solas 3.0.
- Solas can be purchased directly from Statistical Solutions at http://www.statsol.ie/index.php .
S-plus
- The current version is S-plus 8.1.
- S-plus can be purchased directly from Insightful at http://www.insightful.com/ .
- Patches for version 7 (and version 6) can be downloaded from http://www.insightful.com/support/patches_packs.asp .
- A free 30 day trial version is available from http://www.insightful.com/support/downloads.asp .
SPSS 17
- The current version is SPSS 17.0.3. There are two patches to SPSS 17 which can be obtained from the SPSS website or from within SPSS by clicking on Help -> Check for Updates.
- Please note that with the upgrade to 17.0.2, the name of the software has changed to PASW Statistics.

- Annual licenses for SPSS can be purchased from Software Central . These licenses are good from July 1, 2009 to July 31, 2010.
- UCLA has licenses for SPSS Base, Advanced Models and Regression Model. Other modules for which UCLA does not have a license (such as Complex Samples, Conjoint Analysis, Categories, Trends, Tables, Maps, Exact Tests, Missing Values Analysis, Classification Trees and Data Validation) can be purchased directly from SPSS. Again, you would purchase an annual license.
- The SPSS license also includes Sample Power (which is a separate program sold by SPSS), but it does not include Amos 17.
- SPSS 17 is available for the Mac.
- The documentation for SPSS installs with the software and can be accessed by clicking on Help -> Command Syntax Reference.

SPSS 18
- For more information on SPSS, please see www.spss.com .
- Annual licenses for SPSS can be purchased from Software Central . These licenses are good from July 1, 2009 to July 31, 2010.
- UCLA has licenses for SPSS Base, Advanced Models and Regression Model. SPSS Grad Pack
- This includes SPSS 18 (Base, Regression and Advanced Models) and Amos 18. It is available for purchase from the computer store (in the bookstore at Ackerman Union).
- The license is good for 4 years.
- SPSS will support only questions regarding the installation of the software. You can get patches, but you will not receive updates to the software. For example, you can get the patches so that you are running SPSS version 18.0.x, but you will not get SPSS version 19 when it becomes available (unless you buy another Grad Pack).
Stata IC / Stata SE / Stata MP
- The current version is Stata 11.0. After installing Stata, you will want to issue the command -update all- (while your computer is connected to the internet) to update it. To see the latest update that has been installed, type -update query- . You can also download the updates from the Stata website ( http://www.stata.com/support/updates/ ) and install them while your computer is offline.

- The current version of Stata is available for UNIX and Mac.
- Stata can be purchased directly from Stata Corp. at www.stata.com ; for the GradPlan, please see http://www.stata.com/order/new/edu/gradplans/gp-direct.html .
- Licenses for Stata are perpetual (unless you get certain student versions), which means that once you purchase the product, you do not have to pay an annual renewal fee.

Statistica
- The current version is Statistica 9.
- Patches for Statistica can be obtained at http://www.statsoft.com/downloads/maintenance/download.html .
- Statistica can be purchased directly from StatSoft at www.statsoft.com . There is both a PC version as well as on web-based version.
- There are add-on modules for power analysis and data mining.

StatTransfer
- StatTransfer can be purchased from Stata at www.stata.com . Please note that StatTransfer and Stata are two different programs and must be purchased separately.
- StatTransfer can also be purchased from Circle Systems at http://www.stattransfer.com/html/store.html .
- The current version is StatTransfer 10. Click on the "About" tab at the top and select "Now" from the pull-down menu to update the program.
- The current version of StatTransfer (version 10) is available for the Mac.

StatXact
- The current version is StatXact 8.
- StatXact can be purchased directly from Cytel at http://www.cytel.com/default.aspx .

- A patch for StatXact 7 can be downloaded at http://www.cytel.com/Support/Updates.aspx .

SUDAAN
- The current version is SUDAAN 10.
- The patches to upgrade version 9 to version 9.0.3 is available for download at http://www.rti.org/sudaan/page.cfm?objectid=7E8ACB58-B656-4091-8E4896FE14377E5F (see #5 for the update for Windows machines).
- For more information on SUDAAN, please see http://www.rti.org/sudaan/ .
- Annual licenses for SUDAAN (both SAS-callable and stand alone) can be purchased from Software Central . These licenses are good from January 1, 2009 to December 31, 2010.
- UCLA has licenses for both the Windows and UNIX versions of SUDAAN.
- The documentation in .pdf format (including the SUDAAN Language Manual and the SUDAAN Examples Manual) install with the program and can be found in the Manual folder in the SUDAAN directory on your computer. If you used the default installation settings, the manuals will be in c:\program files\sudaan\manual .

Systat
- The current version is Systat 12 (released in March, 2007).
